Having deserved international recognition samples of Azerbaijan folk arts took adequate places in museums of various countries. Carpets, needlework and embroidery of differing techniques, cloth with stamped patterns, jewelry items, various articles made of metal, wood and china had an impact on the life of the great mass of population and continually enriched daily life of people. Decorative art is socially important as it facilitates development of esthetic taste of the people and makes life more beautiful. Having the ancient culture the Azerbaijan people and craftsmen study their national art traditions continuously, update these traditions and create art works meeting the requirements of our people.

Evolution of Azerbaijan ancient jewelry traditions and their application nowadays

Manufacture of adornments, or in other words, jewelry, one of the finest areas of rich Azerbaijan heritage, having very ancient history was developed on the basis of local raw materials and art traditions. Jewelry appeared as one of the branches of metal arts and for a long time has been developing as their internal part. Wide spread of jewelry was related to social-economic developments of the society, location of Azerbaijan towns on international trading roads and close economic and cultural relations with the Middle East. Owing to national color of oriental motifs, shape perfection and harmony of ornaments, articles of Azerbaijan jewelry centers were valued higher than adornments made not only in European and Russian but also in other Caucasian regional jewelry centers. Even though currently in Azerbaijan jewelry a number of ornament patterns is made using electrical devices, they cannot replace hand-made fine decorations on jewels.
